INTRODUCTION TO CLARITY: VOLUME ONE
Clarity: Volume One presents fifty Insight Poems that illuminate everyday life through poetry and reflection. Together, they explore the shifting landscape of emotion, thought, and action—revealing consciousness as something fluid, evolving like a river through experience.
Each poem is paired with an evocative image, brief author commentary, and space for reflection, inviting personal insight and meaningful connection. Themes of synchronicity, serendipity, and the subtle blending of the spiritual and the everyday weave throughout the collection.
Though these poems may seem to move across psychological, philosophical, or cosmological realms, they ultimately point to a simple truth: all experience is both spiritual and earthly. The boundary exists only in perception.
Every section stands complete in itself, offering a distinct perspective while contributing to a unified whole. You may read the book in sequence or open it at random—often discovering that what appears by chance resonates with surprising relevance.
In the print edition, space is provided for your own reflections, allowing the book to become a personal record of insight and growth. In the eBook, links connect you to a shared space where reflections can be exchanged, creating a broader dialogue of understanding.
May your journey through these pages be both engaging and illuminating—and may you discover, again and again, the deeper meaning within your own experience.

Richard E Bradshaw
Born in San Francisco’s Mission District, raised in the Colorado Rockies, and shaped by four years in the Air Force, this free spirit eventually washed up on the shores of Hawaii — and never really left. A deep dive into meditation, yoga, and Eastern philosophy led to degrees in communications and Asian comparative religions from UH Manoa, followed by a PhD in social/cross-cultural psychology split between Tokyo and Melbourne.
He spent 26 years living and teaching at universities in Japan, practicing Zen at a Kamakura Zendo for many years, founding the Kamakura Yoga Society, practicing Aikido at Hachimangu Dojo, flying Cessnas over Tokyo and central Japan, and collecting thousands of pages of research that became a book on Japanese emotional experience. Long stretches through Polynesia, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand and a bit of Europe rounded out the adventure.
Back in Hawaii now, he surfs, hikes, writes, and teaches occasionally — still curious, still moving, still somewhere between here and now.
